Moments you can’t put into words

Live for the moments you can’t put into words.

moments you can't put into words

Something to think about…

Being selective in choosing activities, in choosing friends, in choosing material possessions fosters unexpected appreciation.  Too much of any one thing negates whatever specialness might have been realized.  If we surround ourselves with acquaintances, we never fully share in knowing a few people well.  If we surround ourselves with “toys,” we never learn how we really want to spend our time.

When we don’t take life slowly, piece by piece (one shell at a time), we avoid the greatest discovery of all, the person within.  When our attention to persons, places, things is deliberate and steady, the beauty within the object of our focus shines forth, and we, too, are made more beautiful in the process.

A good life

A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realize how blessed you are.

Living life

Something to think about…

Living life means responding, wholly, to our joys and our pitfalls.  It means not avoiding the experiences or activities that we fear we can’t handle.  Only through our survival of them do we come to know who we really are; we come to understand the strength available to us at every moment.  And that is wisdom.

When we approach life tentatively, we reap only a portion of its gifts.  It’s like watching a movie in black and white that’s supposed to be in Technicolor.  Our lives are in color, but we must have courage to let the colors emerge, to feel them, absorb them, be changed by them.  Within our depths, we find our true selves.  The complexities of life teach us wisdom.  And becoming wise eases the many pitfalls in our path.

Give it away to keep it

Something to think about…

We all want to matter to others.  Very often in the past, and sometimes in the present, our behavior has screamed for the attention we seek from others.  Perhaps, instead of trying to get attention, we ought to give it.  We actually have to give it away in order to keep it.

Wisdom of the ages also dictates that, in life, there are no accidents.  Those people close to us, and those just passing through our lives, have reason to be there.  Giving attention to another’s humanity is our calling.

“The greatest gift we can give one another is rapt attention to one another’s existence.”
