Calm Down Jar

A magical timeout:  Fill up a pint jar with water, 1 drop of blue food coloring and some glitter. whichever kid is “doing time” shake the bottle and watch it settle. Once the glitter has settled, they’ve had time to calm down and talk about their problem. It’s quite soothing actually (grown ups , too?)

What the planet needs most…

The planet does not need more successful people.  The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of all kinds.

Pretty updo

This is one of the prettiest “updo” hair styles I’ve ever seen.  I like the loose, feminine look.

Profiles of the 16 Myers Briggs Personality Types

If you know your Myers-Briggs personality type, or if you have just figured it out from the chart I posted earlier, this is a very good site for understanding what the different personality types mean.

Our whole family took the Myers-Briggs personality test (not just using the chart), years ago, and we found it incredibly interesting to discover where our personalities were the same and where we were different. Reading the descriptions of the personality types really helps you understand those you care about or work with.

This is the best site I’ve found yet — much more user friendly than other sites:

Cooking Tip: A little help from marshmallows

Add a few marshmallows to a bag of brown sugar to keep the sugar soft.

All my years of cooking, and I never knew this. My brown sugar bag now has two marshmallows inside! Great tip!

Gratitude for what “is”

Forever is composed of Nows.

~ Emily Dickinson

forever is composed of nows

Something to think about…

Gratitude for what “is” prepares us for the blessings just around the corner.  What is so necessary to understand is that our wait for what’s around the corner closes our eyes to the joys of the present moment.

We have only the 24 hours ahead of us.  In fact, all we can be certain of having is the moment we are presently experiencing.  And it is a gift to be enjoyed.  There is no better gift just right for us than this moment, at this time.

We can, each of us, look back on former days, realizing that we learned too late the value of a friend or an experience.  Both are now gone.  With practice and a commitment to ourselves, we can learn to reap the benefits of today, hour by hour.  When we detach from the present and wait for tomorrow, or next week, or look to next year, we are stunting our spiritual growth.  Life can only bless us now, one breath at a time.

Can Dogs Form True Friendships with Other Dogs

An amazing tale in the last paragraph of this article.  Made my heart go pitty-pat.

dog friendship

Excerpt:   In recent times we have heard stories and seen videos of dogs engaging in what looks like extreme demonstrations of loyalty and friendship for another dog. For example, from Japan, following a devastating earthquake, came the video of a spaniel-type dog standing guard over an injured dog. From China, and from New York, came videos of dogs disrupting traffic on busy highways as they stood protecting a canine friend who had been hit by a car when crossing the road…
